Daiva Blynas

I have a BA in Art Studio / Photography, with a minor in Communications, from Cleveland State University. During my studies I had an opportunity to compete in Lee Friedlander's “Bus Project”. As one of the winners, my photo was published in Cleveland Magazine. Upon graduation I entered in a few competitions. First, the Cleveland Museum of Art juried “ May Show”, where one of my photos was accepted. Followed by the “International Lithuanian Photographers” competition in Chicago. It was juried by Algimantas Kezys, whose work I admired and was greatly inspired by. I was awarded first place in B/W and second place in colour.
From 1980 -1990 I was subcontracted by Cirino's Wedding Photography, in Cleveland. To this day, I enjoy covering special events and doing portraits within my communities, which have also included Toronto and now Montreal.
In Toronto, I had the privilege of managing, photographing and retouching for two studios: Shutterbugs and Studio Anka. The latter studio focused mainly on archival printing. All retouching was done by hand. Also,managing the Larson Juhl showroom gave me the opportunity to do custom framing for major galleries and artists shows I am now returning to my roots of abstract, macro photography, which I categorize as “photographic art.”. I see the world from a pattern and design perspective.. I hope you enjoy my perceptions and interpretations.

Je suis titulaire d'une licence en studio d'art et photographie, avec une mineure en communication, de l'Université d'État de Cleveland. Durant mes études, j'ai eu l'occasion de participer au concours « Bus Project » de Lee Friedlander. Parmi les gagnants, ma photo a été publiée dans le Cleveland Magazine. Après avoir obtenu mon diplôme, j'ai participé à plusieurs concours. Tout d'abord, le jury du « May Show » du Cleveland Museum of Art a sélectionné une de mes photos. Ensuite, le jury du concours « International Lithuanian Photographers » à Chicago a été composé d'Algimantas Kezys, dont j'admirais le travail et qui m'a beaucoup inspiré. J'ai remporté la première place en noir et blanc et la deuxième place en couleur. De 1980 à 1990, j'ai travaillé en sous-traitance avec Cirino's Wedding Photography, à Cleveland.
Aujourd'hui encore, j'aime couvrir des événements spéciaux et réaliser des portraits dans mes communautés, notamment à Toronto et maintenant à Montréal.

À Toronto, j'ai eu le privilège de gérer, de photographier et de retoucher deux studios : Shutterbugs et Studio Anka. Ce dernier studio se consacrait principalement à l'impression d'archives.
Toutes les retouches étaient réalisées à la main. De plus, la gestion du showroom Larson Juhl m'a permis de réaliser des encadrements sur mesure pour de grandes galeries et expositions d'artistes.
Je reviens maintenant à mes racines : la photographie abstraite et macro, que je qualifie d'« art photographique ». Je vois le monde sous l'angle des motifs et du design.
